The History of Food Sharing and Etiquette

A smart article on the history of potluck food sharing and etiquette in the New York Times:
'Store Bought' Spoils the Potluck Spirit. We like the's author's thoughts on the meaning of putting yourself into whatever it is you bring. Of course, we'd rather have your company at a potluck than have you skip it because the day's plans have made "store bought" the only option.  And frankly, we're happy for you to show up with a hand full of napkins!

November Potluck postponed until December 18th!

Hello Potluckers!

We must reschedule this weekend's previously scheduled potluck. Apologies for the late notice.

We are re-scheduling the Italian themed potluck for Dec 18th. Hopefully the Italian theme will provide a nice break for the taste buds between the November and December holiday food!

Have a wonderful weekend!

BBQ, Barrett, and Bon Voyage

The October Potluck was a cocktail of BBQ themed food, music from local singer Abbie Barrett, and a fond farewell party for our frequent and beloved potlucker, Doug.

Thanks Abbie for giving us a mini concert!!!

You can find out more about Abbie and her band on her website.  They have a new CD coming out in mid November and will be playing at the Lizard Lounge 11/19/11!

Bon Voyage, dear Douglas!

If you'd like to share your recipes from the October Potluck, send them to us!  Past recipes can be found on the recipe page.  Enjoy.

No Thanks. But pretty darn funny!

Anybody for a tour of this food museum:  Arlington's Burnt Food Museum?  For a few laughs and possibly some cringes, take a look at their online gallery of charred meals for more pictures.  Please don't worry, we are not inspired to host a "burnt" food themed potluck!

Outrageously enjoyable! That's a potluck for ya.

The 2nd picnic potluck was unbeatable.  "It was just what I needed, not to mention the awesomeness of the food," said Doug.  We stayed dry and cool, despite a predicted storm and we chillaxed for several hours enjoying good company and amazing food.

I can't adequately describe the Pumpkin Hummus made by Krista.  Or her Vegan Carrot Cupcakes.  Or her Grilled Corn Salad...her food was the star of the picnic.

Even more decadent food was shared:  watermelon, feta, and mint salad, fish tacos, home grown tomatoes...

To top it all off, we got to eat cake too!  Celebrating Sasha's birthday with a Cinnamon Apple Cake added to an already plentiful dessert course.

And then there were Somerville's own Kick*ss Cupcakes!

Several of the recipes for the food from this potluck can be found on the recipe page.  Enjoy.
